An Invitation to the Process

One Trick Pony

Inspired by the lack of good coffee in the area, Shelly Lynch-Sparks and Candice Huffine created One Trick Pony. Focusing on microbrew coffee and creating the “perfect cup,” the pair opened their own cafe and cocktail bar. Designing the space, we had the unique challenge of creating an environment that could easily transition from daytime coffee to evening drinks. The deep green painted beams and custom Chasing Paper wallcovering, placed on the ceiling, add a moody feel to the space without making it too dark. Large windows pour in natural light during the day while vintage-style pendants offer a soft evening glow.

To transition the space from day to night, we installed a custom back bar storage unit. Built out of walnut, the rattan doors lighten up what could otherwise be a heavy piece, and bring an additional texture to the space. During the day, coffee beans and merch are displayed on either side of the back bar unit. In the evening, the rattan doors slide left and right, revealing backlit shelves with fixings for cocktails. The light floors and walls contrast the walnut millwork throughout the space and the dark wallcovering on the ceiling, adding visual interest while making the space feel bigger.

“My favorite thing about One Trick Pony is the community and the people. People come back for the perfect cup of coffee or the perfect cocktail. It’s cool to build something like that.” - Shelly Lynch-Sparks
